Lechuza’s innovative irrigation system works as follows:

Main components

  • Water level indicator
  • Water supply shaft
  • LECHUZA-PON substrate
  • Separator element
  • Water reservoir
  • Drain plug

How it works

  1. There is a water reservoir at the bottom of the Lechuza planter that stores the water needed by the plant.
  2. The LECHUZA-PON substrate above the separator acts as a drainage layer and regulates water supply. This layer naturally stores water, nutrients and fertilizer.
  3. The reservoir can be easily refilled with water or nutrient solution through the water supply shaft.
  4. Thanks to capillary action, water and nutrients move through the LECHUZA-PON layer to the plant’s roots, ensuring balanced supply.
  5. The water level indicator shows clearly when the reservoir needs refilling. Only refill when the indicator reaches the "min" level.
  6. For outdoor use, the drain plug can be removed so excess rainwater can run off, helping to prevent overwatering.

Benefits

  • Requires less frequent watering and can supply the plant with water for up to 12 weeks, depending on conditions.
  • Minimizes the risk of overwatering or drying out.
  • Easy to use and simple to maintain.
  • Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

During the first 12 weeks, water the plant in the conventional way until the roots reach the moist zone. After that, the system takes over and provides a consistent water supply.
